This recipe comes together in about 5 minutes start-to-finish. But you’ll want to refrigerate it for up to an hour (longer even better) to allow the flavors to really blend together.

Blue Cheese Ranch Salad Dressing Recipe

  • Mayonnaise. Use a good real mayonnaise like Best Foods (Hellman’s).
  • Buttermilk. This adds a richness to the flavor of the dressig.
  • Seasoning.  We use a combination of dried parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and freshly cracked black pepper. This seasoning combination gives this homemade ranch dressing its classic flavor.
  • Garlic. We add 1-2 cloves garlic for a richly flavored dressing.
  • Green Onion. Green onion also adds a lot of flavor to this dressing.
  • Blue Cheese. We add a mild Italian Gorgonzola blue cheese to the mix which gives this ranch dressing an amazing flavor.

How To Make Blue Cheese Ranch Dressing

  1. Blend Mayo and Seasoning.  Blend the mayonnaise, seasoning, garlic and green onion in a blender until smooth.
  2. Add Buttermilk. Pour in the buttermilk and blend until well incorporated and the consistency is smooth.
  3. Stir in Gorgonzola Cheese. Pour the dressing into a mason jar or a bowl and gently stir in the Gorgonzola cheese.
  4. Refrigerate. Store in the refrigerator for up to an hour before serving. The flavors will blend together better the longer the dressing chills in the refrigerator.

What Is Gorgonzola Cheese?

Gorgonzola is an Italian unskimmed cow’s milk cheese that is named after the town of Gorgonzola in northern Italy. It is aged for up to 6 similarly as other blue cheese are made. Gorgonzola cheese has a creamier texture with less blue-green marbling than other blue cheeses. It has a mild aroma, with a rich and creamy texture and the flavor is more mild than other blue cheeses. Gorgonzola comes in two varieties: sweet (“dolce”) and spicy (“piccante”). The sweet variety is soft and creamy and can be stirred into sauces and pasta, where the spicy is a good choice if you need wedges or crumbled pieces of cheese.

Can I Use Regular Blue Cheese Instead?

Yes, you can add regular blue cheese to this dressing. Regular blue cheese is saltier, has a more intense flavor and is less creamy than Gorgonzola blue cheese. The gorgonzola added to this dressing has a light and mild flavor and perfect for people who aren’t a fan of the robust flavor of regular blue cheese.
