I’ve long been in the habit of flavoring my water with either a splash of fruit juice, fruit puree, slices of lemon and flavored ice cubes.  And if you know me, you know I have a thing for flavored ice cubes.  Drinking plain water can be a challenge.  It has no real flavor.  But with homemade detox water….we perk things up a bit by adding fresh fruits and herbs for flavor and additional nutritional benefits making it a little easier to drink water.

WHAT IS DETOX WATER

Detox Water, also referred to as fruit flavored water, fruit detox water and fruit infused water, is simply water that has been infused with fresh fruits and herbs.  Vitamins, minerals and antioxidants are pulled from the fruits and herbs as they infuse with the water providing not only refreshing flavor but nutritional benefits as well.  Detox water doesn’t have any calories, so it makes a smart addition to your weight loss goals.

WHAT DOES DETOX WATER DO

Adding Detox Water made with fresh fruits and herbs to your daily wellness plan can boost metabolism, promote weight loss, increase energy and stimulate the detoxifying process.   Fresh fruit and herbs added to water not only provides flavor but adds important vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that you don’t get with plain water.

DETOX WATER FOR WEIGHT LOSS

Does detox water help you lose weight?  Some studies suggest that an  increase of water consumption is associated with a loss of weight due to the breakdown of body fat and the feeling of satiation so we will likely consume less food.   There is an association between chronic dehydration and elevated levels of the hormone angiotensin II (AngII) which is associated with not only weight gain and obesity but many chronic diseases, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. The best detox water for weight loss recipes include lemon, mint, cucumber and grapefruit or any combination of these ingredients.

HOW TO STAY HYDRATED

I personally think the best way to stay hydrated is to make it fun. Here are a few ideas to help you stay hydrated.

  • Add  fresh fruit, berries and herbs to your water bottle or glass of water
  • Drink infused water out of pretty wine glasses
  • Get in the habit of making fruit flavored ice cubes and keeping a variety of flavors in freezer bags in your freezer so you can conveniently add them to your water
  • Whenever you finish drinking a bottle of water (or glass of water) reach for another one to drink
