Detox water is simply water infused with fruits (like lemons, cucumber, watermelon, pineapple, apple, blueberries, and raspberries) and fresh herbs (like mint, basil, rosemary, parsley and cilantro). And it contains zero calories so it’s a healthy alternative to sodas, sports drinks, sweetened coffee, sweetened tea and juices.

I’ve long been in the habit of flavoring my water with either a splash of fruit juice, fruit puree, slices of lemon and flavored ice cubes.  And if you know me, you know I have a thing for flavored ice cubes.  Drinking plain water can be a challenge sometimes. It has no real flavor. But with homemade detox water (spa water), we perk things up by adding fresh fruits and herbs for flavor and additional nutritional benefits making it a little easier to drink. There’s nothing more refreshing, cleansing, slimming and hydrating than a tall glass of chilled detox water.  Making homemade spa water is an easy way to pamper yourself. Your skin will thank you for it!

What is Detox Water (Spa Water)

Homemade fruit flavored water is easy to make, contains no artificial sweeteners or flavoring, and it makes the best natural water flavoring you can drink. Detox Water (spa water) is simply water that has been infused with fresh fruits and herbs.  As the fruit and herbs infuse with the water they give the water a refreshing flavor without any added calories.

How to Make Detox Water

For each of the detox water recipes listed below, the directions are the same.

  1. Prepare fruit. Rinse fruit well. Peel (if necessary) cut, chop or slice fruit.
  2. Muddle berries. If using berries, gently smash the berries in the pitcher to release juices.
  3. Add fruit to pitcher. Add fruit, herbs and ice to a large pitcher.
  4. Pour in water. Fill the pitcher with water (I personally use either SmartWater or spring water – or use carbonated water for flavored sparkling water).
  5. Steep water. Steep water in refrigerator for up to 1 hour; 2-3 hours best; overnight if you want a stronger fruit flavored water (the fruit will become plump and soggy the longer it steeps).

Tips For Making Detox Water

  • If possible, choose fresh organic fruit and herbs and spring or purified water, or you can choose carbonated water to make flavored sparkling water
  • Exact measurements aren’t necessary
  • The fruit gets swollen and soggy, so I typically make only a pitcher at a time (8 cups to last a day)
  • When necessary, peel ingredients like melon, mango and ginger before chopping and slicing.
