When I was a kid I used to love drinking pineapple juice, especially the little cans of Dole pineapple juice.  Of course now I just make my own fresh pineapple juice by tossing chopped organic pineapple in a NutriBullet or juicer.  This is one of my all time favorite pineapple juice drinks.

Pineapple Juice Recipe

This pineapple juice recipe provides a little extra immune-boosting and detoxifying benefits by adding fresh ginger and turmeric root.

  • Organic pineapple. Pineapple is a rich source of vitamin C and antioxidants and a good source of dietary fiber and manganese (which promotes healthy bones). It contains an enzyme called bromelain (which comes from the pineapple stalk). Studies show that bromelain provides anti-inflammatory properties, helping to reduce inflammation and improve digestion. Bromelain also helps to metabolize protein which in turn can help burn away unwanted fat.
  • Ginger root. Fresh ginger is a mighty herb that makes a really nourishing and great tasting tea.  There are so many incredible health benefits of ginger giving good reason to add this fresh ginger tea to your daily wellness plan. It provides anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial benefits. Helps relieve congestion, improves blood circulation, aids with digestion and stimulates our body’s natural detox process.
  • Turmeric root. Turmeric has similar benefits of ginger . It also provides anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits. It improves blood circulation and aids digestion and stimulates our body’s natural detoxifying process.
  • Lime. Lime is rich with vitamins, minerals, flavonoids, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.

How to Make Fresh Pineapple Juice

This is an easy pineapple juice recipe to pull together.  I make it often. It’s one of my favorite detox juice cleanse recipes to make!

  1. Prep fruit and roots. Peel and chop pineapple, ginger, turmeric and lime.
  2. Juice fruit and roots. Push pineapple, ginger, turmeric and lime one at a time through a high-powered juicer.
  3. Stir and Enjoy. Stir the juice with a wooden spoon to blend well. Pour 1/4 glass full of juice, 1/4 glass full of crushed ice, and fill the rest of the glass with coconut water or distilled water. Garnish with lime slices and fresh mint.

How to Make Juice Without a Juicer

  1. Prep fruit and roots.  Chop ingredients into smaller pieces than you would if feeding through a juicer.
  2. Blend. Add all of the ingredients to a high powered blender and blend until smooth.
  3. Strain. Pour the blended juice through a fine mesh strainer into a glass to eliminate any stringy pieces of root and bits of fruit.
  4. Stir and Enjoy. Stir the juice with a wooden spoon to blend well. Pour 1/4 glass full of juice, 1/4 glass full of crushed ice, and fill the rest of the glass with coconut water or distilled water. Garnish with lime slices and fresh mint.

Benefits of Pineapple Juice

There are a lot of health benefits of drinking pineapple juice!

Drinking pineapple juice is a good habit to get into.  It’s a good source of vitamin c (which helps support the immune system) and magnesium (which is essential for proper nerve and muscle function).  Pineapple contains a nutrient called bromelain which has anti-inflammatory properties and helps support digestion by breaking down protein. (1)    Limes are also a good source of Vitamin C, and contain flavonoid compounds that have antioxidant and anti-cancer properties. Ginger is a potent anti-inflammatory and it stimulates digestion and aids in proper absorption of nutrients from foods. (2) As for turmeric, it’s in the ginger family and it also provides anti-inflammatory benefits.  (3)

Pineapple Juice Nutrition

  • Eight ounces of unsweetened pineapple juice contains about 130 calories.
  • It provides about 30 mg of magnesium, 25 mg of vitamin C  and 0.78 mg of iron.

Detox Juice Cleanse

Detox juices are a healthy tool to use to gently cleanse the body and shed a few unwanted pounds.  It’s important, however, to consume pineapples in moderation because it does contain fructose, which can cause blood sugar spikes. Rather than drinking this detox juice straight-up in one shot, I prefer to fill a glass a third full of the juice, add a fistful of crushed ice, then fill the remaining with water or coconut water.  I will drink several glasses of this detox juice in smaller diluted portions throughout the day. It’s also good to eat a handful of almonds when drinking fruit juices for the plant protein to help balance sugar levels to keep them from spiking.  This Pineapple Ginger Cleansing Juice is a perfect juice to add to your Daily Detox Diet.

Is Pineapple Juice Acidic

Yes.  Most fruits are acidic and pineapple juice is one of them.  If you have acid reflux, your doctor may suggest that you limit your intake of pineapple or pass on it altogether.   Citrus fruits also contain high levels of acid and bananas and melons are fruits with less acidity.  On the pH scale, pineapple scores somewhere between 3 and 4.  Anything higher than 7 is alkaline, with anything between 4 and 7 being neutral.
