Iced Tea with lemon in a clear glass.

Our iced tea recipe is super easy to make and it’s great to serve at cookouts, potlucks, birthday parties, baby showers, game day and casual get-togethers.

My mom used to make this recipe mostly during the summers when I was growing up. She would get up early in the mornings to cut up fresh fruit from our local farmers market, and then she would make a big pitcher of this iced tea for us. This was also a popular drink that she would make for a group of girl friends she played tennis with when she’d have them over for lunch. She’d fill beautiful tall glass pitchers full of tea, ice and fresh chopped peaches, apples, lemons and oranges. It makes such a pretty presentation with the added fruit, sort of like a sangria. This delicious refreshing drink is always a hit!

How Long Should Tea Steep?

How long you steep tea really depends on how strong you like your tea. The longer you steep it, the more bitter tasting it can become.

  • Loose Leaf Tea. Steep for 2 to 4 minutes
  • Tea Bag.  Steep for 3 to 5 minutes

Tips For Making The Best Iced Tea

Here’s a few tips for making the best iced tea.

  • Measure the water so your tea doesn’t turn out too strong or too diluted.
  • Set a timer for 3 minutes while steeping the tea. If you like a stronger tea, then set the timer for 5 minutes. The longer you steep tea, the more bitter tasting it becomes. And that’s NOT the taste we’re going for.
  • Do NOT squeeze or wring out the tea bags to get all of the liquid out. This will make your tea taste bitter. Just remove the tea bags and discard them.
  • Use a good filtered water or spring water rather than tap water for the best tasting tea.

How Long Does Iced Tea Last In The Fridge?

Store iced tea in a pitcher or an airtight container (mason jars or Weck jars) in the refrigerator. If properly stored, it should last 3-5 days.
