What Is Mango Lassi?
Mango Lassi is a popular Indian mango yogurt dessert drink that is typically made with milk, sweetened with sugar, and seasoned with ground cardamom.
Mango Lassi Recipe
Our mango lassi recipe isn’t a traditional recipe, because we use oat milk, sweeten it with honey and season it with ground cinnamon and ginger.
- Mango. Use fresh mango if you can. They’re sweeter and juicier than frozen mangoes.
- Yogurt. Use unsweetened plain yogurt or Greek yogurt. If you use Greek yogurt you may want to add a little more oat milk to thin the consistency.
- Oat Milk. We use unsweetened oat milk for this recipe, but feel free to use whatever unsweetened milk you like. Oat milk is naturally free from lactose, soy and nuts.
- Honey. We drizzle a little honey into the mix to add a little sweeteness.
- Ice. We like to blend the lassi with ice, which makes it nice and cold.
- Seasoning. We add a pinch of ground cinnamon and ginger to the top of each lassi, but you can add a pinch of the traditional ground cardamom if you like.

How To Make Mango Lassi
- Measure. Measure out all of the ingredients and add them to a blender.
- Blend. Blend until smooth. Add a little more water, oat milk or ice if needed.
- Storing Leftovers. If you have any leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. If properly stored, leftovers should last a day or two.
What Type Of Yogurt For Mango Lassi?
Plain unsweetened yogurt is typically used to make mango lassi. You can use low-fat yogurt, which will produce a thinner consistency or use Greek yogurt, which will produce a thicker consistency. If you choose to use Greek yogurt, you can thin the drink by adding more milk, water or ice.
How Can You Tell When A Mango Is Ripe?
A perfectly ripe mango will have a strong flowery fragrance, and will slightly yield when you gently squeeze it. The skin should have tones of yellow-orange or red which will increase as the fruit ripens. Avoid mangoes that have a loose or shriveled skin, or black spots on the skin which may indicate overripeness and damage to the flesh inside.
How To Cut Mango
Cutting a mango can be a bit tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’ll become a breeze.
- Hold the fruit standing on one of its ends.
- Slice down one side of the pit vertically, then repeat on the other side. There will be flesh left around the pit.
- Using a paring knife, score the flesh of each half into cubes. You don’t want to slice all the way through the skin.
- Using a spoon, scoop along the inside of each half as close to the skin as you can to cut out all of the cubes. Alternately, you can turn each half inside out so the cubes pop outward, then cut away the cubes.
- Cut away the band of fruit around the pit and peel away the skin. Cut the flesh into pieces.
