How to Steam Broccoli On The Stove

  1. Rinse and trim broccoli. Trim away tough portions of the stem and rinse the broccoli under water. Slice larger broccoli florets in half  so each piece will cook evenly.
  2. Make Garlic Oil. Add the oil and butter to a small sauce pan over low heat. Sprinkle in the minced garlic and swirl. Remove the pot from heat right away so the garlic doesn’t burn and set aside. Stir in the lemon juice.
  3. Boil Water. Add about 1-inch of water to a pot and insert a steamer inside. Make sure the water isn’t coming through the steamer basket.
  4. Steam broccoli. Put the broccoli in the steamer inside the pot. Place a lid on the pot and steam for 3-5 minutes. Remove from heat immediately. You can check for tenderness by inserting a fork into a floret.
  5. Toss broccoli. Transfer steamed broccoli to a bowl and toss with garlic oil and then half of the Parmesan cheese.
  6. Serve. Dust the broccoli with the remaining Parmesan cheese and serve with lemon wedges.
